I have been attending the Coonawarra Roadshow - Perth, since arriving in Australia a few years back now. This year I was invited as a Trade guest.
Coonawarra is a wine region located just under 400 KM south of Adelaide City, SA. The wine region is part of the Limestone Coast wine zone, along with Mount Benson, Mount Gambier, Padthaway, Robe and Wrattonbully.
Coonawarra is famous for it's Terra Rossa soil over it's limestone bedrock, which gives good drainage.
This year the event was held on a very hot Sunday at the Perth City Farm. Unfortunately it was inside, and with the heat from the Paella stand in the corner and such a hot day, meant frequent visits outside was necessary. Entertainment was also position in the opposite corner (was quite loud in that corner).
Two lovely tables of cheese and meats were available to cleans the palate.
Fifteen wineries were present: Blok Estate Coonawarra, Bowen Estate, Brand’s Laira Coonawarra, DiGiorgio Family Wines, Hollick Estates, Katnook Coonawarra, Ladbroke Grove Wines, Majella Wines, Parker Coonawarra Estate, Patrick of Coonawarra, Penley Estate, Petaluma Wine, Wynns Estate Coonawarra and Zema Estate Wines
The event was well represented by Perth's wine lovers and experts alike, enjoying tasting the wines from Coonawarra grape varieties (mainly Cabernet Sauvignon).
My favourites (in random order) were:
Penley Estate: Helio CS 16
Wynns Estate: CS 15 & SZ 03
Parker of Coonawarra: CS 08, CS/PV 15
Katnook Coonawarra: CH 16, Blok RI 13 & 16
Hollick Estates: CH 15
Patrick of Coonawarra: Mother of Pearl SP, Fumé Blanc, RI 12, CS 08 & CS Reserve 10
Petaluma Wine: MB 16, CS 16, CS 13 & CS 98
So, a big thank you to Coonawarra Roadshow, and looking forward to next year.
