WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits Online

The Level 1 course is for those preparing for, or employees starting their first job involving spirits, or for the enthusiast wanting a structured learning approach to spirit. The course will introduce topics at a basic level

What you'll learn in the Level 1 course

The basic principles of spirit production
The main types and styles of spirits
Factors affecting the flavour of spirits
How to serve spirits
How to describe spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to taste and describe spirits using a globally recognised approach, identify important styles of spirits and know the raw materials and production methods that define them.

Course Delivery

You perform the course by logging into the WSET Online Classroom (login details will be sent by WSET).

The Level 1 Award in Spirits has a minimum requirement of 6 hours of online delivery time, including the exam

Assessment

The level 1 assessment is by a closed-book exam of 30 multiple-choice questions within 45-minutes. The pass mark is 70%

Special Consideration

If you feel you were at a disadvantage during the exam due to, for example, illness, you can submit a special consideration request to us. We will pass this on to WSET for their assessment. The form (on request) must be sent to Vinum Vitae within 5 working days after your exam date. Please see our APP Policies document for further information.
